Goodfellows raises more than $16,506 for needy kidsKenosha News, October 10, 2008 KENOSHA NEWS STAFF Through the "Grassroots Goodfellows," 380 Kenoshans contributed $16,506 to assist more than 3,000 deprived children whose lives have been buffeted by the cruel winds of fate. All of the money was raised locally and will be spent locally to serve various organizations. There are no administrative costs. Contributions varied in size from 25 cents to $1,000. "We are pleased to hear that the Grassroots chapter of the Goodfellows has once again recognized the importance of serving the unfortunate," said Dan Melyon, executive director of the Shalom Center. Kathryn Comstock, director of Women & Children's Horizons said, "we now we can rely on the community to rise to the demands of the less fortunate. We are confident that this will continue." Eight local charities are served by the Goodfellows under the auspices of the Kenosha News and the overview of Goodwill Industries, Inc. Through the Grassroots Goodfellows efforts, disadvantaged children of Greater Kenosha were provided with clothing, outergarments, food and toys starting in October.
